If you would like to add a person’s story to A Living Memorial, please send us an email that cites three sources that describe a racially-motivated killing of an unarmed Black person engaged in everyday activity until encountering law enforcement. Every name submitted will be carefully considered.

If a church or institution would like to sponsor an installation in your community, a downloadable version is available. It can be printed locally for an interior or exterior installation. The installation can be an entry point for difficult conversations about co-creating a world without police brutality.

A Memorial Field lays bare America’s system of policing that includes structures of profiling, violence, and domination. Installing A Memorial Field in a safe place where visitors can reflect on our nation’s history of racial injustice makes a powerful case for police reform. The installation can be an entry point for difficult conversations. The laments for unarmed Black Americans whose lives ended violently and extrajudicially cry out for accountability. Can we co-create a world without police brutality?
Names carry weight. Words do, too. When confronted with incontrovertible facts, words can stir our sense of empathy, and encourage action. Please cite three sources describing the incident, which must involve the racially motivated killing of an unarmed Black person engaged in everyday activity until encountering law enforcement. Every name submitted will be carefully considered.
